Campbell County School District - Assessment Rubric

Department: Math Course: Grade 4
Essential and Enduring Learning: Students will make predictions and explain mathematical thinking based on simple probability experiments.
Curriculum Code: MA-04-05-02
Task: Completion of an extended response probability task.

Indicators
Understanding of the situation and probability concepts. Situation evaluation or prediction explanation showing mathematical thinking.
Level 4 Advanced Response shows evidence of a clear understanding of the situation as well as describes the probability of every individual event relative to the total outcomes possible. Responses fit the actual probabilities of the situation. Probabilities are given for every possible outcome with clear and complete explanations.
Level 3 Proficient Response shows evidence of an understanding of the situation as well as describing the probability of the most events that will occur. Responses fit the actual probabilities of the situation. Probabilities are given for every possible outcome with reasonable explanations that show understanding of equally-likely events.
Level 2 Partially Proficient Response shows incomplete understanding or does not relate probabilities to the specific characteristics of the object being used. Some responses given are accurate but not all outcomes are accounted for. Predictions may be omitted or explanations incomplete.
Level 1 Non Proficient Response shows little or no understanding of the situation or does not differentiate probabilities based on regions of the spinner or numbers on the cube. Responses are limited and mostly inaccurate. Explanations are incomplete.

Students will solve two problems. Each problem will get a 1 to 4 score using the following scoring process. The 2 problem scores will then be combined and students will receive one level score based on the following scoring process.

Scoring Process: Level 4 = Total 8
Level 3 = Total 6 - 7 with no score of 2
Level 2 = Total 4 - 5
Level 1 = Total 2 - 3
