Department: Math Course: Grade 7
Essential and Enduring Learning: Apply appropriate problem solving strategies
- Brainstorming and math skills to a real-life problem.
Curriculum Code: MA-07-03
Task: The student will use the brainstorming strategy to find an appropriate
solution to the problem and explain their work on two open-ended, extended
problems.
Indicators | |||||
| Understanding the problem | Using strategies | Computations | Written explanation | Satisfy the requirements | |
| Level 4 Advanced |
Shows a thorough understanding of the problem. | Applies an efficient strategy with accurate data in charts, tables, or diagrams if needed. | Computations are complete and correct. | Explanation is clear, concise and uses appropriate mathematical language. | Satisfies all requirements of the problem with correct answer. |
| Level 3 Proficient |
Shows a basic understanding of the problem. | Applies a strategy with accurate data in charts, tables, or diagrams if needed. | Computations are complete and may or may not be correct. | Explanation is clear with some appropriate mathematical language but not concise. | Satisfies all requirements of the problem - answer may be partially incorrect. |
| Level 2 Partially Proficient |
Misinterpreted part of the problem. | Has difficulty applying a strategy or it is partially useful. | Computations are incomplete inaccurate. | Explanation is unclear, not concise, or incomplete. | Satisfies most requirements of the problem - answer may or may not be correct. |
| Level 1 Non Proficient |
Shows little or no understanding of the problem. | No evidence of or incorrect strategy. | No evidence of computations. | Explanation is not understandable or unrelated to the problem. | Does not satisfy the requirements of the problem. |
Level 1 = Total less than 13
Total Score - The competency score is the lowest rubric score obtained on either open-ended problem.
