Air Has Weight

Did you ever think that the air we breathe has weight? My father always commented that my cream puffs were as "light as air." It was a nice compliment, but the fact is that AIR not only takes up space, but it has weight. You can prove this by the following experiment.

Gather these materials:

a ruler
two balloons
a hanger
tape
string or thread

Step 1: Suspend a ruler from a hanger by attaching a string to the middle of it.

Step 2: Tape or tie each balloon to the ends of the ruler. Make sure your ruler is balanced.

Step 3: Remove one of the balloons and blow it up. Tie a knot to keep it closed. Replace it to the exact spot on the ruler.

What happened? Don't peek until you try it.

Why did it happen?
