Esther Morris

Esther and her family moved to Wyoming to mine gold. She later married and settled in South Pass City.

By October 12, 1869 Wyoming's first legislative assembly was held in Cheyenne. An act was passed that led to equal rights for women. The following year an official document made Esther Morris the first woman Justice of the Peace.

When Wyoming became a state in 1890 Esther Morris was an honored guest at the banquet. In 1895 she was a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

Esther Morris died on April 2, 1902.
