CHEYENNE

The Cheyenne hunted and warred in the eastern part of Wyoming. They later became friends with the Arapaho. They now share the Wind River Reservation with the Arapaho.

The Cheyenne were famous for their sacred "medicine arrow" which they carried into battle. The Cheyenne were once farmers but later became buffalo hunters. The Cheyenne were Plains Indians. They lived in tepees, and depended on buffalo for their existence.

The Cheyenne bitterly resented the white man. They lost many warriors to the white man. Chief Touch-the Cloud and Chief Wolf Robe were two great leaders.

This picture of Wolf Robe was taken in 1909.
